VAMC Earns Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval
By demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety, the Huntington VA Medical Center and its community based outpatient clinics in Charleston, W. Va., and Prestonsburg, Ky., have earned the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval.
"We sought accreditation for our organization because we want to demonstrate our commitment to patients' safety and quality care," said Edward H. Seiler, medical center director. "We view obtaining Joint Commission accreditation as another step toward achieving excellence."
The Joint Commission's national standards are intended to stimulate continuous, systemic and organization-wide improvement in an organization's performance and the outcomes of care.
The Joint Commission conducted an unannounced, on-site evaluation of the VA Medical Center October 29 through November 2, 2007, and the Medical Center received the accreditation certificates in March 2008. The accreditation award recognizes the Medical Center's dedication to complying with the Joint Commission's state-of-the-art standards on a continuous basis.
